Blackberry Curve vs. new I-Phone 2.0 3G??? Life is like a Box of Chocolates…

ARRRGHHHH!!!

So I think I cam going to go out and get the BlackBerry Curve, until I realize it is not 3G. (3G is a Networking feature for over the air computing) and it is using the “Edge” network.

That is a problem with me in that I am doing more and more computing in the cloud.

Cloud computing for those of you who don’t know what I am talking about or are thinking I am smoking something, are services like Gmail, Microsoft Live Mesh(Beta), Flickr etc.

I am always connected to Corpsman.com 24/7 via my phone. I realized I needed a bit more “UMMPH” to be able to work on my system when anywhere. I have had my Samsung BlackJack save my bacon via Twitter (8404 and DeeDee “Tweeted” me when our server went down) and i was able to go find a Internet Cafe and I paid 7 dollars for 1 hour of time on a computer (I only needed 12 mins) but the main thing, we were back up within minutes.

Now that is all good etc, but I need a phone that will also let me actually log into my System to reset things if need be. While the BlackJack is good for basic computing in the cloud, I just need a bit more firepower. What would have happened if I was not in Gurnee Mills mall? What if I would have been in a park or something.

Yeah I know I could purchase a EDVO card and have my laptop with me 24/7 as well, but honestly I like the idea that we are doing more with smaller products. I love the idea of having a phone do everything I need on the fly while out.

It is imperative that I, 8404, DeeDee or CrazyCajun are in contact when we see things go nuts on here. Corpsman.com has become not only a part of my life and theirs but a part of our shipmates, Soldiers, Coasties, Marines and Airmen daily life as well. Trust me I get bunches of emails when our system has problems.

We appreciate every message we get.

Ok Steering back on course.

So Karen told me it was a go for me to get the Blackberry Curve this last weekend as they had a sale for Fathers Day (99.00) but I looked up the networks support and the air went out of my balloon fast.

Then Monday A.M. Steve Jobs at WWDC announces the I-Phone 2.0. It will have 3G support and will be cheaper then the 3G support I am paying for now with my BlackJack. The I-Phone will be going for 199.00 For the 8 GB model and 299.00 for the 16 GB model.

Easy Choice? Nope..

In July Blackberry comes out with the Blackberry Bold. We don’t know the price yet, but it will have 3G and the Biggest Plus is it will have wireless networking if your in your home or in a place that gives you free WIFI.

ARRRRRRRGHHHHH!!!

So keep in touch with my on-going saga of my next phone purchase..
