Fort Campbell, KY – A 101st Airborne Division Soldier died October 13th, when conducting a dismounted operation, the unit came under attack with small arms fire in Yahya Kheyl, Paktia Province, Afghanistan.

Private First Class Jordan M. Byrd, 19, of Grantsville, Utah, was a Combat Medic assigned to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). He joined the Army in September 2009 and arrived at Fort Campbell in April 2010.

His awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and Army Service Ribbon.

Byrd is survived by his wife, Savanna M. Byrd; son Ayden Byrd both of Clarksville, Tennessee; mother, Roberta Lynn Pitt of Grantsville, Utah; and father Jerald J. Brost, of Casper, WY.

A memorial service will be held in Afghanistan. Fort Campbell holds a monthly Eagle Remembrance Ceremony to honor fallen Screaming Eagles.

    I’m so sorry for his family, their aren’t words to describe what his family his going thru. My son is in the 101st and was out on partol with PFC Byrd when this tradgey happened he told me what a wonderful person he was and how he risk his own life to save a fallen commard that is a true hero. H e will missed not only by his family but also by his brothers in arms. God bless him and his family….

    Words can not express the heavy heart I have for the family and friends of this your man. He served with my son while attending traing at Ft. Sam Houston. My thoughts and prayers are with this family.
