This is awesome!
I know there are more women out there that deserve these awards. They put their lives on the line day in and day out. They give the same type of care that a male does in the combat environment.
I want to personally congratulate SPC Brown(MEDIC) US ARMY, on this prestigious award. I for the life of me dont’ understand how someone who does this job which reads the same as MOH’s aren’t awarded it.
This is just me though.
Why am I so strong in my support of Women in the Military? I’m married to a RN who use to be a Marine 8404 DOC! I can tell you with out a doubt she was as good or better then quite a few of the supposed GUNG HO wanna be Doc’s out there. (If I could tell you the story of when we rolled up with a rig to pick up a Marine who had fallen out on a Run.. Ohh Boy..)
A 19-year-old medic from Texas will become the first woman in Afghanistan and only the second woman since World War II to receive the Silver Star, the nation’s third-highest medal for valor.
Army Spc. Monica Lin Brown saved the lives of fellow soldiers after a roadside bomb tore through a convoy of Humvees in the eastern Paktia province in April 2007, the military said.
After the explosion, which wounded five soldiers in her unit, Brown ran through insurgent gunfire and used her body to shield wounded comrades as mortars fell less than 100 yards away, the military said.
